Burke-Works

ok, so a few updates for the site...

first off, i wanna apologize in advance. right now i have a pretty bad migraine going on so sorry if there are any typos/mistakes in this post.

IRC Server
i installed some irc software on the server so now we have our own official irc server and #burke-works channel. feel free to join: irc://irc.burke-works.com:6667/burke-works (fyi, use whatever client you like such as mirc, etc) i have been thinking about changing the chat script in these forums over to one that will connect to the server now rather then what is currently in use but i doubt that i will (see below for reasons why).

Forum Update
next off i would like to talk about some updates that i intend to make to the forums. so the first thing i would like to talk about here is that i am officially pissed off at woltlab (for many reasons that if i were to list them all could become a new post in-and-of-itself) and as such i want to switch the forum software that i am using. therefore, i need some suggestions for what people would recommend that i use.

a few requirements for the software:

• must use PHP (well, perl-cgi would be fine, but NO ASP, Python, or other crappy languages)
  
• must support addons
  
• must have a portal page (either built-in or through an addon)
  
• integration with a wiki system (however that is done i dont care) would be nice, but not required.
  
• i might add other requirements, but my brain is complaining about thinking too much right now just be aware that i might update this list.
  

Snake Update
ok, now for the last update. so, i have finally decided on his (or her, still not sure which lol) name. from thense and forever my snake shall be known as Snape. pretty much had already decided on that like the day i got him, but i figure i would make it official now. thanks to everyone that posted ideas for his name.

also, he has now shed once (did so about 2ish weeks ago) and has been shedding again. seems rather soon to start shedding again, but i have no complaints about him growing lol.

now, im not sure if there are any snake experts out there or not, but if so i need some advice on Snape. he hasn't eaten in like 6 weeks, and it is starting to worry me. i try to feed him and he either ignores the food altogether or will attack it and after about 10-15 min of having been wrapped around it will just drop it and leave it along. im not sure if this is normal behavior for a ball python that recently shed or is preparing to shed, but 6 weeks seems like a long time to have gone without eating (at least to me it seems like a long time). any advice/ideas about this would be nice (either through personal experience or a link to another website)


well, i think that is all for now. and i think my excedrine is starting to take effect cause my migraine is a lot better then it was!

sorry for the double-post, but i just remembered something that i forgot to mention for the irc server.
it does have a bot running on it (named eggland, dont ask). the bot is loaded with a few games:

• UNO
  
• 8 Ball
  
• Blackjack
  
• hangman (pretty sucky version of it imo, but it does work)
  

(if there are any other games you want on it then say so here with a link to the script (must be an eggdrop script) and i will consider installing it)

also, im still trying to figure out how to use it so it might still have some bugs, but with any luck if u do a !help in the chat channel it should list all available commands you can use (note: that command seems to be buggy and doesn't always work).

i am also working on setting it up with a logger so that all logs from the channel will be viewable online, but have been having some difficulty getting it working how i want it to. once it works i will post here with where to access the logs at though.

well, a bit of an update. i have decided on a new forum system that i will be using now... it will just be a matter of time as i try to migrate everything over to it.

the only bad news is that user accounts wont be able to be moved. i should be able to move posts, but without account to go with them it kinda makes them pointless >_<

im not sure where you heard that it is gonna be phpbb, but i assure you that the last thing i would use is that crap. it is called MyBB, i hadn't ever heard of it til like 3 days ago, but i have tried it out and must say that i really do like it. and it has a lot of plugins that come with it. im almost ready to move these forums over to it, so that will prolly happen sometime later tonight.

as for editing themes/styles/templates, i have been playing with it, and from what i can tell it seems to do a very good job at it. if anything i would say that it seems easier then these forums which are pretty easy to edit imo...
